Born in 1951. After College study at University VEKS in Maribor. First private ehibition in 1972. Since that time several individual and collective Exhibitions all over the world.

Artist Statement:

Marika Kohlhaas believes that the art is life, there is no ending point, just a continual process. She captures magical moments of life with her eyes and spirit, tries to discover the real meaning and importance of them for human reality.

Marika Kohlhaas says:

"We artist look at our surroundings with open eyes, and also open minds. We give each form an colour its own significance, as far as we can see it; in our subjects, we keep the joy of discovery, the pleasure of the unexpected; our subject itself must be a source of interest. But why tell you what we are doing when everybody can see it if they want to?

Whenever I have wanted to say something, I have said it in such a way as I believed I had to. Different themes inevitably require different methods of expression. This does not imply either evolution or progress, but it is a matter of following the idea one wants to express it.
My work is very often completely different, sometimes I am occupied for months by graphic -printing making, in old manner, then I start again a big sized acrylic- and oil painting on canvas.
I just love crazy ideas like painting in Egypt at 45 ºC in shadow, in the German slate stone quarry in the depth of 900 feet or I suddenly start a monumental painting which I have to finish in 15 months.
